These trees include ones produced and published on the internet by “Lycett” researchers.
Other trees, though, record that John in fact married Elizabeth Johnson in Brinkelow on the 13 March 1834.
Originally, I simply went with the majority. However, it is clear from the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 Censuses that the John who married Elizabeth Lycett was born circa 1801.
The 1841 gives the age of the John who married Elizabeth Johnson as 30, and the later Censuses are consistent with a birth year of circa 1807.
In the light of this, I have changed my view, and now believe that this John - born circa 1807 - in fact married Elizabeth Johnson and that he was the father of:
This leaves open the question of: “Who the John was that married Elizabeth Lycett?”
Was it the case that he was the John born circa 1800 - the son of John and Ann Williscroft?
